Arizona Aqueous XLI

Arizona Aqueous XLI is a National Juried Exhibition of water-based media on paper.

Water-based pigments on paper must constitute the major portion of the work.  Entries composed of paper constructions, paper sculpture, paper collage, cut paper, mobiles, two- or three-dimensional wall pieces, and installations are eligible.  Water-based inks, acrylics, watercolor, and other water-based media are eligible. Artists are urged to enter work, which is innovative in concept and approach, whether representational or abstract.  Work must have been completed within the last 24 months.  Work that has been previously displayed at TCA is not eligible.  All work must be the original creation of the artist.

ARTWORK:

Giclee reproductions are NOT permitted.  Entry must be original, entirely the work of the artist, executed within the last 24 months, and cannot have been previously shown at TCA.

No art may be removed from the exhibit prior to the close of the exhibition on Sunday, March 30, 2027, including sold art.

JUROR: Sandy Newell

 Sandy Newell was born in Chicago and currently resides in Scottsdale, Arizona. She works primarily in watercolor, using a pouring technique to create unexpected textures and reactions.

Sandy received her BFA from the University of Illinois and her MBA from Loyola University of Chicago. She began her career as a graphic designer and successfully operated her own design studio for fifteen years. She also taught art at the local grade school for several years, learning as much from her students as they did from her.

Sandy is currently represented by The Finer Arts Gallery in Cave Creek, AZ. She joined the Arizona Watercolor Association in 2019 and in 2021 received an award of distinction for her painting “Poseidon”. In 2014, Sandy became a signature member of the Illinois Watercolor Society and won a best in show in 2018 for "OMG". Her painting "Medusa" received an honorable mention from the 2018 "Real People" exhibition. She is also a member of the Frankfort Arts Association and juried member of Tall Grass Arts Association.

January 5-12, 2027: Jury Process
Week of January 18, 2027: Notifications to Artists
Week of February 8, 2027: Shipped art due
Monday, February 15, 2027: Hand delivered art due
Friday, February 19, 2027: Opening Reception, 5-7pm 
Monday, March 29, 2027: Art must be picked up
Week of April 5, 2027: Shipped work returned.

PRESENTATION:

All artwork must arrive ready to hang.  If framed, work must be suitably matted, (white, black or neutral colors preferred), simply framed, and firmly wired. No sawtooth hangers.  TCA reserves the right to disqualify any selected entry upon arrival that does not meet the above requirements or is deemed unsuitable for display.

JURY/FEES

Payments are made at the end of the CaFE™ entry process either via credit card online or a check mailed to the art center. 

Jurying will be done based on digital images in a jpg format only. Up to four works may be entered for consideration.

SALES:

All work must be for sale. TCA will retain a 40% commission.  Price work accordingly. 

SHIPPING:

Artists are responsible for shipping to and from TCA.  Unsold work will be shipped back to the artist after close of the exhibition.  Artists must provide a barcoded preprinted PREPAID shipping label for the return of their artwork.
