Located only minutes from the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA), Daisy Lane: Print & Book Artist Residency (Daisy Lane) is a newly renovated, light-filled space where artists can create and explore in a focused environment. The central program at Daisy Lane is a year-round artist residency for artists working in book arts, letterpress, screenprinting, Risograph, and other print and artist book related art forms. The location allows easy access to the Museum, BIMA events and archives, and a vibrant artistic community. The space is also used by BIMA for youth engagement, BIMA’s Open Book Tours events, workshops, art events, and lectures.
At any given time, Daisy Lane will host up to two resident artists: one local artist and one traveling artist. This allows the residency to support artists from the surrounding community while also bringing artists from outside the region to Bainbridge Island. Artists will be selected for a 2–4 week residency based on their conceptual creativity, technical knowledge, and familiarity with at least one of the studio offerings at Daisy Lane. Traditional and new technologies are encouraged. Resident artists will have access to the studio from 8 AM-10 PM daily.
Stipends and Housing:
Non-local residents are provided housing in a one-bedroom apartment within walking distance of the studio. The residency includes $350 per week unrestricted stipend, $500 materials budget toward their project, several round-trip ferry tickets to encourage local exploration, and a modest expense account at the BIMA Bistro.
Daisy Lane welcomes local artists from the Puget Sound region who do not require housing. Local artists will receive the same access to the Daisy Lane studio and equipment. If you are a local artist who prefers or requires housing, please indicate this in your application.
Contact information, project proposal, artist bio, and work samples.
Artists at all stages of their careers are encouraged to apply. The residency is open to artists currently living in the United States or U.S. territories, regardless of citizenship. Applicants should have familiarity with at least one of the studio offerings at Daisy Lane. Familiarity does not need to be advanced, but applicants should feel comfortable working independently with the equipment or processes they are applying to use during their residency. Orientation and instruction on the studio equipment are provided at the start of the residency.
