West Liberty University will host the national exhibition of collegiate ceramic art in February and March 2027. This exhibit will celebrate and honor the college ceramic artist and run in conjunction with Earth & Fire 2027. The juror will be Earth & Fire 2026 best in show artist Matthew Skelly.
Intercollegiate Ceramics 2027 is the kick-off event for Ceramics Take Over Wheeling, a citywide event celebrating ceramic artists and enthusiasts alike. Galleries and venues across the “Friendly City” are excited to showcase the very best in contemporary and traditional ceramic art during this incredible 4-day ceramics festival.
The awards will be:
1st prize: $2000.00, solo exhibition, and paid demo opportunity in 2028.
2nd prize: $500.00
3rd prize: $350.00
2 merit awards: $75.00 each

Our Juror:
Matthew Skelly, is a visual artist originally from California. His practice is centered around hand-built functional and sculptural ceramic objects adorned with decorative illustrative surfaces.
His work has been featured in exhibitions across the United States and internationally, including the International Ceramics Competition in Mino, Japan and the Taiwan Ceramics Biennale in New Taipei City, Taiwan, both in 2024.
He has received various honors, including the Innovator Award at the 33rd Annual Strictly Functional Pottery National, the Studio Potter Merit Award at the 2025 NCECA Juried Student Exhibition, and the Best in Show Prize at the 2026 Earth & Fire exhibition.
Matthew is currently pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

We invite you to visit Wheeling, WV on February 25 - 28, 2027 for 4-days and 3-nights of amazing ceramic events! • Do Not Ship Work With Envelopes Full of Stamps. UPS / Fedex return labels, USPS Click-N-Ship only please.
• No large Installations will be accepted.

• Artists may submit up to 3 works. You must submit high-resolution images (300 dpi) for the jury process. West Liberty University will use submitted images of accepted works for concurrent online exhibit, documentation, catalog, and promotional materials for this exhibit.
• Please no shipping peanuts! Shipping materials will be kept for returning work. Only boxes, crates and bins with proper labels including the artist’s contact information and the name of the piece will be kept for repackaging of hand delivered works.
• Works left at West Liberty University more than 30 days past the Pick-up Dates (April 14-18) become the property of the college and will not be stored.
• Open to visual artists residing in the United States, and currently enrolled in a degree seeking institution.
Works must have been completed within the last two calendar years and not been previously exhibited at the Intercollegiate Ceramics exhibits.
• All works must be for sale. West Liberty University will retain a 30% commission on the sale price.
