Location: Ripple Artspace (formerly Rountree Gallery), 120 W. Main Street, Platteville, Wisconsin 53818
Ripple Artspace invites artists from across the United States to submit work for Teeny Tiny BOLD, our annual national juried exhibition celebrating the impact of small-scale art.
Working within a limited scale invites artists to distill ideas, refine craftsmanship, and create work with lasting presence. We invite submissions in all media that explore the possibilities of intimacy, precision, invention, and bold expression. What can happen when less becomes more?
Open to all subjects and themes. All two- and three-dimensional media are welcome, provided the finished work measures no more than 12 inches in any direction, including frame, base, or any mounting hardware.
The exhibition will be celebrated with three public events. Exhibiting artists are encouraged to attend one or more events, if feasible, and to help promote the exhibition through their social media channels.
Juror
John T. Upchurch is a Chicago-based sculptor whose work explores the intersection of artifact, invention, and memory. Using wood, stone, metal, found objects, and salvaged materials, he creates evocative sculptures that suggest curious tools, specimens, relics, and imagined histories. His intuitive approach to making is informed by traditions of craft while embracing experimentation and discovery.
Upchurch earned his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1990. His work has been exhibited nationally and is recognized for its thoughtful use of materials, exceptional craftsmanship, and quiet sense of wonder. Through his sculpture, he examines the relationships between tradition and innovation, function and mystery, and the stories embedded within objects.
