Artists interested in being considered for Exhibiting Artist membership at Baton Rouge Gallery - center for contemporary art (the nation's longest-operating artist cooperative) are encouraged to submit digital images of their work here!
Baton Rouge Gallery is a professional, non-profit, contemporary art gallery and contemporary art center, originally founded in 1966. When it first opened its doors, its 12 Exhibiting Artists represented some of the most respected visual artists in the region. Today, the same is true, though its Exhibiting Artist roster has grown to include more than 75 artists working in a wide array of media.
One of the many things that sets BRG apart from other organizations in the region is that its artist roster is endowed with the ability to have a strong voice in how the organization responds to the changing landscape of contemporary art nationally and locally. Many artistic decisions, ranging from which special exhibitions to host to which artists are invited to join the gallery, are made by the Exhibiting Artists. Among the benefits this affords, it allows gallery visitors a different perspective than they might experience at other major institutions or commercial galleries.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 10, 2026
TO APPLY FOR BRG EXHIBITING ARTIST MEMBERSHIP:
1) Artists are asked to submit 10 - 20 images of their work (in .jpg, .pdf, .mov, or .mp4 format). No student work or work executed under other supervision should be submitted for consideration.
2) In addition, artists are asked to submit a resume/CV, bio, and artist statement (in three separate .doc or .pdf files) via email to klivingston@batonrougegallery.org. Artists are encouraged to include their website within their resume/CV. There is an option to copy/paste the information from these documents here on CaFE, but due to the character limit restriction, artists are discouraged from using this platform for this part of the application process, as it could clip your content and leave out key details about your art history.
3) Submit a $5 processing fee. Afterward, the digital portion of your application will be complete. Wait for jury results for round 1.
4) There will be two rounds of the jury process. The first round will only include the digital application here on Call for Entry. Artists advancing to round two will be asked to bring two physical works, which must be delivered to the gallery. This will allow the selection panel a chance to review your artwork in person with a specific eye on craftsmanship and presentation. Works should be presented as they would be in an exhibition. If you have any questions about how to present your work in a way that is display-ready, feel free to give the gallery a call or email klivingston@batonrougegallery.org, and we will do our best to advise you based on your work. Please do not bring artwork to the gallery unless you have been asked to do so.
A NOTE ABOUT IMAGE SUBMISSIONS:
Images are preferred in .jpg format. Images should be at a minimum of 300 dpi and at least 5 inches on the image's shortest side.
ELIGIBILITY & EVALUATION CRITERIA:
All artists over the age of 18 are eligible to apply for BRG exhibiting artist membership.
Applicants must be at least two years removed from schooling. No student work or work executed under other supervision will be considered and should not be submitted.
Applicants should be able to prove residency in Louisiana or otherwise explain in an accompanying statement their relationship to Louisiana or Baton Rouge. Once accepted, an artist may maintain their exhibiting artist membership with Baton Rouge Gallery if they relocate outside of the region. This statement can be emailed with the resume and artist statement.
Baton Rouge Gallery will provide equal opportunity for consideration to all persons who apply for artist membership regardless of age, color, national origin, citizenship status, physical or mental disability, race, religion, creed, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, genetic information, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, or veteran status. In addition, BRG will provide reasonable accommodations for artists with disabilities.
Applicants will be evaluated on (1) quality and consistency of craftsmanship, (2) ability to maintain a consistent conceptual focus within a body of work, (3) professional representation of work and CV, and (4) professional experience.
NOTIFICATION:
Applicants will be notified by September 18, 2026, of the results of round 1 of their application, and will be given further instructions at that time.
