Showcase 2027 Proposal

The Showcase 2027  program features local and regional artists in Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery, 701 Water Street, Port Townsend. During the year, the program will gather approximately 36 artists in three cohorts, each of which will show across three separate periods:  January 28 - May 10, May 13 - September 6, and September 9 - January 3, 2028.

The application period will close on November 12, 2026. All artists will be notified by December 5, 2026 with an acceptance or denial letter sent to the email associated with their CaFE account. 

The application fee is waived for members of the historically underrepresented BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. We offer this waiver on the honor system. To apply fee free, use the code DISCOUNT at checkout.

What Are We Looking For?

Showcase  jurors will be judging the quality, professionalism, and sales potential of the work. The selection panel will also look for a cohesive body of work from each artist. Final artist selections will reflect a variety of media, techniques, and styles. The works submitted for review can be examples of former artwork, but must demonstrate the style of work that would be exhibited in Showcase 2027.

In an effort to encourage and promote the sale of art exhibited in the Showcase gallery, the selection panel will pay particular attention to retail pricing of artworks, with the goal of selecting artists whose work is generally under the $1,000 retail price point. 
 

Jurors

Artists will be chosen by a panel of Northwind Art curators. The panel will consist of four members: two Northwind Art Exhibits Team staff, Exhibit Designer Suzanne Lamon, and Executive Director Martha Worthley. 


About the Jurors

Suzanne Lamon is a Port Townsend artist known for her brilliant narrative watercolor work. She was a graduate student at Washington State University in the 1970s and was later a founding faculty member of Port Townsend School of the Arts, now Northwind Art School. Along with exhibiting her work at venues across the Pacific Northwest, Suzanne is a popular teacher of watercolor classes at Northwind. She also serves as Exhibit Designer at Northwind Art's Jeanette Best Gallery.

Martha Worthley has been a member of the arts community in Port Townsend for more than 40 years. She is a practicing artist who has exhibited her work at the Jefferson Museum of Art + History, the Aurora Loop Gallery and other venues. Also a writer and educator, Martha cofounded PT Artscape and taught in the Port Townsend public schools. She later joined Centrum, where she served as director of youth programs and of artist residencies. Martha has led Northwind Art as Executive Director since December 2023.

Northwind’s Role

Using the bios artists provide, Northwind will create artist information cards for gallery visitors to take home. Northwind Art also promotes the Showcase exhibit on our website, in our Northwind Art newsletter, and in press releases and social media.  

All work in inventory will be available for sale in the gallery and on the Northwind Art website. 

Northwind will provide Showcase artists with additional information about events during the year, framing and wiring expectations, pricing guidance, dates for delivery of artwork, number of pieces for inventory, and expectations for photos of work.

Built on a strong foundation of community, Northwind Art was founded in January 2021 when two established art organizations, Port Townsend School of the Arts and Northwind Arts Center, joined together—we are now known simply as NORTHWIND ART.

APPLICATION CALENDAR
July 24: Call for entries opens.

November 12, 11:59pm PST: Application deadline.

November 13 - December 4: Jurying period.     

December 5: Notification of acceptance or denial to artists. All artists will be notified with an acceptance or denial letter sent to the email associated with their CaFE account.

December 12: Signed artist agreement/W9 form due to confirm your participation in the exhibit.

Please submit 10 images of your work. Each entry should include dimensions, medium, and retail price. 

All artwork must be the original creation of the applying artist and must not contain imagery derived from AI.

Who Can Apply?

The Showcase 2027 program is geared toward artists living in Jefferson, Clallam, Mason, Kitsap, and Island counties, but the application is open to other artists outside these counties. 

Showcase 2027 artists may have short-term shows at restaurants, offices, and similar venues while exhibiting in the Showcase gallery, but they cannot have representation at another gallery or retail outlet in Port Townsend while exhibiting in Showcase.
