ABOUT THE JUROR
Juror: Claire A. Warden
Claire A. Warden is an interdisciplinary artist who works in still and moving image media that engages identity, representation, illegibility, and language in the United States in multi-year projects. Informed by anti-essentialism and decolonial theory, her work uses experimental image-making and cameraless abstraction as a mode to subvert the problematics of representation in photography and film, particularly in addressing experiences had by people of color.
Warden’s work has been exhibited widely in the United States and abroad. Her work has been featured in publications, including Harper’s Magazine, Der Greif Magazine, Strange Fire Collective, Lenscratch, and Light Work’s Contact Sheet. Warden was awarded artist residencies through the Center for Photography at Woodstock, LATITUDE, ACRE, Light Work, and Penumbra Foundation. She received a BFA and BA from Arizona State University and a MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
