Scripted: The 16th Annual Juried Show

The 16th Annual Juried Show explores the intersection of image and language through the inclusion of hand-lettering in visual art. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly — from bold typography and expressive script to subtle handwritten elements integrated into the composition. All mediums and styles are welcome, provided hand-lettering is a visible component of the work.

Entry Fees: $15 SAGE Members / $25 Non-Members for first entry; $5 each additional entry, up to 10 works total.

SCRIPTED | 16th Annual Juried Show

SCRIPTED explores the intersection of image and language by incorporating hand-lettering into visual art. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly — from bold typography and expressive script to subtle handwritten elements woven into the composition. Contemporary, traditional, conceptual, illustrative, abstract, and mixed-media approaches are all welcome, provided hand-lettering is a visible component of the final artwork.

All submitted artwork must be original, created within the past five years, and may not have been previously accepted into a SAGE Juried Show. Artwork that was submitted but not selected in prior years may be re-entered.

All mediums EXCEPT photography will be accepted.

All artwork must be available for sale.

Accepted 2-D artwork must arrive exhibit-ready with a proper wire-hanging system attached. Saw-tooth hangers and clip-on frames will not be accepted.

For 3-D work, SAGE will provide pedestals. Artists must provide any additional display hardware or stands required for sculpture work that cannot fit on a pedestal. Maximum pedestal dimensions are 22 in. x 16 in.

ENTRY FEES:
• Non-Members: $25 (includes first artwork)
• SAGE Members: $15 (includes first artwork)
• Additional Entries: $5 each, up to 10 total entries
(All entry fees are non-refundable.)

Both stages of jurying will be completed blindly. The juror will not see artist names or artwork titles during the selection process. The first stage of jurying will be conducted online from submitted images and will determine the selected exhibition works (approximately 33–40 artworks). Final award selections will be completed in person from accepted works installed in the gallery.

Artists selected for exhibition will be notified via email by Sunday, July 12, 2026. Please do not ship or deliver work to SAGE until acceptance notifications have been sent.

Awards will be announced during the Awards Reception on Thursday, September 10, from 5:30–7:30 PM. Artists are encouraged to attend. Lodging assistance may be available for exhibiting artists traveling to Sheridan.

JUROR | Dan Lee | Sheridan, WY

Dan Lee (@dandrawnwords) is a freelance creative professional and designer whose work centers around hand-lettering and typography. His creative practice has led to branding, merchandise, and visual identity work for musicians, artists, events, and creative organizations across the country. Through Destiny Kid Labs, Dan has also collaborated with agencies, nonprofits, and art directors to provide creative direction, facilitation, and messaging development. He has served on the SAGE Community Arts Board of Directors since 2020.

THE FINE PRINT

At its sole discretion, SAGE has the final say in accepting or declining artwork for exhibition. 

PLEASE NOTE:  Once you finalize your CaFÉ application and click "Submit Payment," your application cannot be edited in any way. Please ensure all intended artwork has been uploaded and selected and that all artwork information is correct. 

ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY INFORMATION

SCRIPTED is open to all artists living within the United States. Original 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional artwork in all mediums will be considered, with the exception of photography. All submitted work must include a visible element of hand-lettering within the final composition.

Artwork must be original, created within the past five years, and may not have been previously accepted into a SAGE Juried Show. Artists are welcome to re-submit work that was entered but not selected in prior SAGE juried exhibitions.

Maximum dimensions for 2-dimensional artwork may not exceed 36 inches in width. Free-standing 3-dimensional artwork may not exceed 36 inches in width or length.
