Open Season Proposals for 2027 Art Exhibitions at Frisco Discovery Center, Frisco, TX

On behalf of the City of Frisco, Play Frisco Cultural Affairs is pleased to announce an open call for our 2027 season! Artists may submit a group of artwork for a proposed exhibition at the Frisco Discovery Center located in Frisco, Texas. Selected artists will have their works displayed in the Community Gallery, giving them opportunity to share their work with visitors and the Frisco community.  

On behalf of the City of Frisco, Play Frisco Cultural Affairs is pleased to announce an open call for the 2027 season for artists to submit their artwork for a proposed exhibition located at the Frisco Discovery Center in Frisco, Texas. 

Selected artists will have their works displayed in the Community Gallery in 2027, giving them opportunity to share their work with visitors and the Frisco community. 

Submitting an Open Season application does not guarantee reservation of the gallery in 2027. Open Season applications will not be processed until after the submission deadline on March 9th, 2026.

• All types of artistic media will be considered.
• All artworks must be framed, wired, and ready to display or hang. Generally, pieces may not be larger than 72” in any direction.
• Any installations must be coordinated with staff, and the artist must submit photos of the completed installation or detailed sketches of the structure and installation elements.
• No perishable or irreplaceable items may be used.
• Keep in mind that the Frisco Discovery Center is a place for all ages
• Artworks must be unifying, community-centric, and family-friendly.
• There is no fee to apply. However, if your application is approved, the rental cost of a month-long show is $325.
• Payment will be due within two weeks of receiving your first draft of your contract. There is an additional $35 hourly rate for receptions (two-hour minimum).

ELIGIBILITY AND SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

• Designs must be original and not infringe on the copyright of any other party.
• Designs submitted for consideration shall be appropriate for viewing by public officials, City employees and citizens, including children, and visitors.
• Artists must be able to travel to the Frisco Discovery Center for their load in date, load out date, and reception. We do not accept artworks that have to be shipped to our facility.
• Groups with multiple artists are welcome to apply, but each artist must submit an artist statement of who they are as an artist, along with images and description of their individual artworks.
• Artists must submit a minimum of 15 images of the artworks they would like to have displayed in their proposed art exhibition. The maximum number of images an artist can submit is 20. If your application is approved, you will have the opportunity to submit additional artwork.
• If staff evaluates the submitted artwork and determines that it does not align with City values for a public gallery, the artist may be asked to submit an alternative piece.
• Submissions will be accepted only through www.callforentry.org. Please scan or photograph the completed artwork clearly and ensure the file is large enough to print clearly.

SELECTION CRITERIA 
Artwork submissions will be reviewed by City of Frisco staff. All artists will receive written notice of acceptance or rejection of their submission application. 

Selection criteria includes: 

• Compliance with all eligibility and submission requirements listed above. Failure to follow any of those requirements will result in disqualification from consideration.
• Appropriateness of content.
• Originality of concept.
• Visual impact.
• Demonstrated excellence of technique.
• Does the artwork reflect the shared values of the City of Frisco?

DISCLAIMERS 
Display of art as part of the Frisco Discovery Center's exhibition program is not intended to constitute a public forum; rather, it is intended to be an expressive activity of Frisco as a governmental entity and the City Council. Art selected for participation in the Frisco Discovery Center's exhibition programs shall reflect the shared values and views of the City Council. 

By submitting artwork for consideration as part of our 2027 Open Season, you agree that the display of selected artwork constitutes government speech and that the City has final authority over all aspects of the manner and location of display of selected artwork. 

AGREEMENT 
Selected artists will be required to sign an art agreement and guidelines. Artists under the age of 18 must have an agreement signed by a parent or guardian. 

SCHEDULE   

January 15, 2026: Call for entry opens. All questions should be directed to friscodiscoverycenter@friscotexas.gov 

February 23, 2026: Deadline for questions 

March 9, 2026: The deadline for accepting submissions 

April 21, 2026: Notification of acceptance 

May 5, 2026: Deadline for signed agreement and guidelines 

• All artists must provide an artwork description that will help jurors understand your motivation, themes, and/or process.
• All artists must provide an Artist statement.

• This opportunity is open to all artists who can comply with the eligibility requirements described in this call to artists for proposed exhibitions in 2027.
• Any two-dimensional artwork must be wired properly and ready to hang. The Frisco Discovery Center uses the Arakawa cable and rail system.
• Artists must have the ability to be on site for their scheduled 2027 dates for load in, load out, and reception.
