Opportunity Summary
Soho Photo Gallery is pleased to announce the 28th International Krappy Kamera Competition. SPG is New York City’s longest running co-operative photography gallery. All selected photographs will be exhibited from March 4- March 22, 2026 in the gallery and permanently on the SPG website
General Information
Juror
Our juror is Pauls Tognarelli who recently retired as a cultural administrator and curator of the Griffin Museum of Photography. As the Executive Director she produced 54 exhibitions a year. Paula frequently reviewed at national and local portfolio events and jumpstarted hundreds of photographers careers. She holds an M.S. in Arts Administration From Boston University and a B.A. from Regis College. She is a graduate of the New England School of Photography and has finally given up on her never-ending journey towards finishing her Masters in Education.
What is a Krappy Kamera.
Our philosophy at Soho Photo Gallery is that in the hands of any artist great photographs can be made with basic equipment. To explore this talent, we are searching for extraordinary photographs made with lousy lenses. Examples of some Krappy Kameras are the Holga, Diana, Ansco, and pinhole cameras. You can also create your own Krappy Kamera by using your non-Krappy Kamera (e.g. 4x5, SLR, DSLR) and exchanging the lens with a Krappy lens (e.g.pinhole body cap or Holga-type lens).Cell phones, disposables and point and shoot cameras are ineligible. No AI generated work is accepted. AI can only be used in editing your image. Remember, just because a camera is old and moldy doesn't make it Krappy The lens is the determining factor.
Awards
Prizes: First Place $300, Second Place $200, Third Place $100, Three Honorable Mentions and a Peoples' Choice award.
Winning Photographs must be framed and wired for hanging. Maximum height or width (including frame) for exhibited work cannot exceed 40 inches. Packing and delivery instructions will be emailed to winners. Photographs not suitably prepared will be excluded. Please be sure to use your current email on CaFE.
Application Requirements
There is no limitation as to subject matter.
Eligibility Criteria
The competition is open to all photographers 18 years and older, excluding members of the Soho Photo gallery.
