Contemporary art has seen an ebb and flow of Minimalism and Maximalism, with Minimalists advocating Less is More, while Maximalists believe that More is More. They can be seen as two sides of the same coin, not really at odds, but rather two extremes of thought. We do not seek a middle ground, which would only be a watered-down compromise. Nor do we want decorative living room Abstraction which does not move Art forward. Give us your sharpest Minimalism or your most dynamic Maximalism so we can show both sides of the coin in one room.
Just as important, look at the term All or Nothing as a reference to risk-taking. The Lab on Santa Fe is known as the most experimental space in Denver, existing smack-dab in the middle of the Art District on Santa Fe where thousands attend our First Friday Art Crawls. Our gallery is also known for its large volume of sales. Our mission is to walk the line between explosive creativity and facilitating financial success for our artists.
Contemporary art and design has seen an ebb and flow of Minimalism and Maximalism, with Minimalists advocating Less is More, while Maximalists believe that More is More. In a way, the two approaches can be seen as directions, with the Minimalists journeying inward towards the idea itself, while Maximalists explore outward, to accurately capture our world of variety and media. They can be seen as two sides of the same coin, not really at odds, but rather two extremes of thought.
For this show, rather than pick a side of the coin, we want to present the coin itself, and display the best of both worlds, the best Minimalism and the best Maximalism we can find, in one space. We do not seek a middle ground, which would only be a watered-down compromise. Nor do we want decorative living room Abstraction which does not move Art forward. Give us your sharpest Minimalism or your most dynamic Maximalism so we can show both sides of the coin in one room, as both a spotlight and a dialogue of two extremes.
Just as important, we would like you to look at the term All or Nothing as a reference to risk-taking...really going for it...putting it all on the line.
