Application Requirements
You may participate in the art fair only in accordance with these rules. No other document, even if signed or acknowledged by Integrity Shows, shall modify these rules. If you do not agree with or abide by these rules, you may not participate in the art fair.
1. Your work must be original and created by you as the artist. If we have reason to believe that your work is not original and created by you, we reserve the right to make reasonable inquiry into the origin and authenticity of your work. If you fail to cooperate in our investigation or if we determine that your work is not original and created by you (e.g., if the work was created by another artist or is substantially completed using AI), you may, at your election, either (a) immediately and completely exit the fair without refund, or (b) remain at the fair and be classified as a "commercial" booth, the rent for which will be adjusted to the commercial rate of $2500. If you elect to re-classify your booth, the difference between your initial rent payment and the adjusted commercial rent will be immediately due. Should this additional payment not be made on demand, our show crew may at any time block access to your booth and/or remove your materials from the show. Should it be necessary to remove your materials we will endeavor to do so without damaging them and to keep them secure for a short time while you prepare to remove them from the show site. We cannot and will not take responsibility for damaged or missing items. Your application indicates that you understand these rules and that you give us permission to enforce them as described.
2. Your work may only be in the medium and styles as presented to and accepted during the application process. This includes a proportional representation of the medium and styles presented and accepted. If you wish to be considered in two mediums we suggest applying for each separately. Should they both be accepted you could present them in one booth.
3. You must provide your own tent and display as presented in the application process. All tents must be staked, or have a minimum of forty (40) pounds of weight securely attached to each corner.
4. Electricity has limited availability and must be prepaid and reserved.
5. Your booth area will be designated by lines or other demarcation. Your tent and displays must remain in the booth area assigned to you at all times.
6. You may not share a booth unless all artists sharing the booth have been accepted by the jury and prior arrangements for sharing have been made and accepted by us.
7. Art must be available for sale. You acknowledge and agree that you are required by law to collect and remit Michigan sales taxes. Call the Treasury Department, (517) 373-0888, to register.
8. Integrity Shows reserves the right to cancel your acceptance to the art fair at any time prior to the show with no further obligation to you except a refund of your previously paid booth fees (if any).
9. You authorize us to use your name, image, and likeness, as well as representative samples of your work, for purposes of promoting and advertising the art fairs.
10. Your booth must remain open during all event hours. At least one of the artists listed on your application must be present during the event.
11. You acknowledge the inherent risks associated with outdoor, public displays of your artwork. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROPER INSURANCE AND PROTECTION OF YOUR WORK AND SETUP. Your liability policy must be have a minimum coverage of $1 million and list the following as certificate holder: City of Detroit and the State of Michigan, its departments, divisions, agencies, offices, commissions, officers, employees, and agents are included as additional insureds."
Please contact us if you need assistance in obtaining annual or show specific insurance coverage.
12. The show will be held unless the event management (or venue, city or municipal official) determines that there is a threat to safety. If show hours are reduced or the event is canceled there is no refund.
13. You agree to hold harmless and indemnify the Belle Isle Art Fair, Integrity Shows Inc, the City of Detroit, The State of Michigan and the Michigan State Parks, for any damages.
14. We reserve the right to amend these rules at any time with prior written notice to you. You acknowledge that the venue may have rules of its own and agree to abide by those rules as well.
Definitions and Restrictions:
PRINTS / REPRODUCTIONS / EMBELISHED / MASS ITEMS
In an effort to be clear to art buyers, we use the following definitions:
• Prints are made by a process that assures each one may be unique. Etching, wood cut, silk screen and so forth. Prints are welcome and should be numbered and signed. Apply under print.
• Reproductions are mechanically produced images, which include Giclée’s, digital copies, 3D printing and so forth. We permit reproductions as up to 25% of your booth as long as they are clearly labeled and are made from your own original artwork. These items should also be numbered and signed for maximum value. Each piece should be clearly labeled- reproduction.
• Embellished work is art with added details, touches of paint or other modifications to make each one unique. We encourage you to embellish your own art prints and reproductions and then clearly label them. These need not be numbered as each is somewhat different. All art should be signed.
• Mass Items are similar to reproductions in that they can be easily produced in large quantities. These items are not expected at art fairs. You may have a small section in your booth to sell stickers, buttons, magnets, coasters or notecards that are your originally work. This display must be limited to about a 2’ by 2’ area.
• Kits, commercial molds, copywritten or trademarked images are NOT allowed. This includes sports and other logos. An image of another person’s art (such as photo of a mural) is not acceptable.
MEDIUM SPECIFIC RESTRICTIONS
Jewelry-
Manufactured components, such as chains, beads and the like must not be the focus of the art, nor can these be sold separately. You may use chains or beads to enhance your own work as long as your art work is the focus of the piece. Selecting and combining beads, pearls, stones and the like is not enough no matter how well done. Wrapping a stone or another object must be done is such a way that the wrapping is the focal point / feature (not the wrapped object). Wire or bead weaving is judged by the finished product and may be an exception to the rules about using commercially produced items.
Fiber-
Wearable fiber art, (cloth and fabric is used to create a new and unique item) is allowed. This can include items stitched from raw cloth, woven, crochet and so forth. Repurposed wearables made from other items can be acceptable if the final item is substantially different from the original pieces. Printing or reproductions on shirts, bags and other items are not permitted. Hand painted and embellished shirts may be included by artists invited in fiber if they have been included in at least one individual item photo and description. Tote bags and the like may not be sold, even if hand painted.
Photo-
The original image must be shot by the artist. Printing can be done in any archival manner and printed on paper, cloth or metal. No photos on commercial products like shirts and bags. The images must at a minimum be signed and ideally be numbered as a limited edition. Photos that have are substantially changed from the original image are considered digital art and artists should apply in that category.
Candles, soaps and fragrances-
Sorry. No.
Artificial Intelligence-
This is a fast moving area. While it is possible to be creative and artistic using your language skills, we do not accept this for a visual art fair. In our opinion this would be like describing a painting to another artist and having them create it with your oversight. Not what we are looking for. Use it for inspiration, but not for your final art
Refund Policy
You may cancel your participation at the art fair at any time and for any reason. There may be penalties depending on when we receive your notification. If cancellation is received 60 days before the show you receive a full refund. Artists canceling 45 days before the show may receive a 75% refund or apply all fees to the next year. Refunds of 50% are available until 30 days before the show. After that time there are no refunds except if the show is canceled.
If the show is canceled by Integrity Shows, the artist receives a full refund, unless cancelation is required by the venue or a government body. If we cancel at least one month before move-in day a minimum of 75% of booth fees will be returned. After that, a minimum of 50% of booth rent is refunded until one week prior to move-in day. If the cancellation if required on or after that, no refunds are available.
There is no discount or refund if the show hours are reduced due to weather or other factors
