APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Apply online at www.zapplication.org. We use ZAPPLICATION for communication and marketing information. BE SURE YOUR PROFILE INFORMATION IS CURRENT AND CORRECT IN ZAPPLICATION. Please use proper capitalization.
JURY PROCESS:
A jury of judges selected based on their specific interests, professional knowledge, and/or background with our festival will jury the applications. Prior participation in The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival does not guarantee automatic selection to the festival. Festival staff members are not voting members of the panel, and their opinions are not reflected in the final jury scores.
YOUR artists’ statements are critical! The short artist’s statement (100 characters) is read aloud to the jury as images are shown. Your long statement allows you to share more information that we use to review your work before the jury and then again when you are accepted on our social media.
*Special instructions with a coupon code will be emailed to enable Best of Show & Featured Artists to register for their complimentary booth and exempt jury status.
On November 7th, 2026, a jury panel consisting of five to seven art professionals and collectors will jury the applications using a 1-7 scoring system. Artists receiving the top scores in 12 media categories will be invited to participate in the event.
All award winners must register through Zapplication. (Special instructions with a coupon code and booth upgrades will be emailed to enable BOS & Featured Artists to register for their complimentary booth and exempt jury status.)
GENERAL GUIDELINES
Participating artists agree to follow and abide by safety protocol as communicated by festival management.
MEDIA CATEGORIES:
The Arts Festival uses media categories to organize artists' images into logical, related groups for the jury's review. While a balanced show that equitably showcases fine art, fine contemporary craft, and diversity among media is a principal objective, there is no quota or entitlement by media category.
Ceramics: All original clay and porcelain work other than jewelry is accepted in this category. No machine-made or mass-produced work is permitted. Each piece must be signed if multiple pieces of the same design are displayed. No factory-produced work is allowed. Clay work from commercial molds is prohibited. Painted commercial slip-cast work is not permitted.
2D Mixed Media and Digital Art: 2-D Mixed Media art uses MULTIPLE media with a relief depth of LESS than 1/8” of an inch thick. This category includes collage, handmade paper, and fiber that is not wearable. Digital Art consists of any original work for which the original image, or the manipulation of other source material, was executed by the artist using a computer. Works in this category must be limited editions, signed, and numbered on archival-quality materials. Traditional photographs taken through digital media should apply in the photography category.
3-D Mixed Media - Art using MULTIPLE media that has a relief depth of MORE than 1/8” of an inch thick. This category is for objects which are "decorative" rather than "functional.”
Drawing/Pastels/Printmaking: Works created using dry media, including chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, wax crayon, etc., or from the fluid medium of inks and washes applied by pen or brush, are to be entered in this category.
Printed works for which the artist hand-manipulated the plates, stones, or screens are adequately signed and numbered as a limited edition. All photogravure, photocopy, and/or offset reproductions will be rejected. Printmakers are required to disclose both their creative and printmaking processes. Prints must be matted and displayed in a suitable portfolio or stand.
Emerging Artist: This category is designed specifically for artists residing in Texas with little or no experience exhibiting and selling their artwork at any venue. Artists just beginning their careers in the art world are encouraged to apply.
Fiber: All work crafted from fibers, including basketry, embroidery, weaving, leatherwork, tapestry, and papermaking. No machine tooling, machine-screened patterns, or other forms of mass production are permitted. No factory-produced wearable items may be exhibited, regardless of any additional modifications or enhancements made by the artist.
Glass: Functional or decorative glass works that are kiln-formed or have been crafted by glass blowing, molding, or casting may be entered. No forms of mass production are permitted.
Jewelry: This category includes two-dimensional and three-dimensional works that incorporate more than one type of physical material. All images must be original in composition. No copies or derivative work allowed. All jewelry must be entered in this category, whether the work is produced from metal, glass, clay, fiber, paper, plastic, or other materials. No commercial casts, molds, or production studio work is allowed. PMC/precious metal clay must be labeled as such. Any jewelry with most components purchased or not made directly by the participating artist is prohibited. No commercial casts or molds are allowed. Work that the artist has designed, but with no subsequent hands-on work by the artist, is prohibited. No more than 15% of a piece may consist of commercial findings.
Painting: Original compositions created in oils, acrylics, or watercolor. Painting overprints/giclees or pre-existing images is not considered an original. These are considered "altered reproductions" and must go in browse bins and be labeled as outlined above.
Photography: Photographic prints made from the artist's original image, which have been processed by that artist or under their direct supervision, are included in this category. Photographers are required to disclose both their creative and printing processes. All pieces must be signed, numbered, and dated in a limited edition. Prints must meet "archival quality" standards.
Sculpture/Metal Works: Three-dimensional original work done in any medium. If recycled materials are used, they must be altered or utilized in a manner that differs from their original purpose.
Wood: Original works in wood that are hand-tooled, machine-worked, turned, or carved are accepted in the wood category.
